12th Haapsalu Horror and Fantasy Festival (28th – 30th April 2017)

The Haapsalu Horror and Fantasy Festival screens non-competitive feature and short film programmes, retrospectives and special presentations of genre cinema (fantasy, horror, sci-fi, etc.) as well as a European competition programme of genre based short films (Méliès d’Or).
Film Eligibility Criteria

Short films for Méliès d’Or:
- Short (25 minutes or under)
- Must be completed by January 2016
- screened in 35 mm or broadcast video formats
- The Film must belong to the fantastic genre.
- The Film must be a European production

The determination of the European character of a film is done according to the 2 following options:

The director(s) is (are) non-European, in which case the production has to be entirely European (a non-European co-production, even as a minority interest, is not accepted).

The director(s) is (are) European and in this case a co-production could be considered (1 or 2 European countries and 1 non-European country).

The list of countries accepted as European is:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and Croatia.
- If a selected film should win a Méliès d’Or at another festival, then it will be withdrawn from
the HOFF Méliès d’Or
Non-competitive feature and short film programmes:

Short (45 mins or under) or full-length (45 mins or over) films: fiction, documentary or animation; premiered after 1 January, 2016; screened in 35 mm or broadcast video formats; with English subtitles, if not in English.
